The Social Work Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender Subcommittee (LGBT)
The Social Work Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender Subcommittee (LGBT) is a student-led
subgroup of the Student Union. It serves as a support and social group for Lesbian/Gay/Bi/Transgendered students and their supporters in the School. It also provided a vehicle for all social work students and faculty who are committed to providing inclusive non-biased social work services to people along the entire spectrum of sexual and affectional preference. In the
past, subcommittee members have worked on projects to encourage the integration of material on gay, lesbian and bisexual experience into School curricula and brought speakers to the School to conduct workshops on gay, lesbian, bisexual issues as they relate to social work practice. Because this is a student-led group, it is active in some years and not active in others, depending on the
interests of students. Led by Kelly (kkrein@gmail.com) and Elise (eniedermeirer@wisc.edu), Fall projects have included a poster publicity project for National Coming Out Week and participation in Transgender Awareness Week. Contact Kelly or Elise or Bill Heiss (advisor--waheiss@wisc.edu) for meeting times and dates.
