(Last modified on 9/22/05)

  • Everyone's opinion matters; this is demonstrated by listening respectfully (by not interrupting, not minimizing others' opinions, paying attention)
  • Everyone has a chance to talk
  • We can pass on dialogue and do so with dignity
  • Confidentiality as defined in the following way: What we say her stays here. If we want to share what is said here elsewhere, we will ask for permission
  • Be receptive to others' beliefs and self-examination
Refrain from negative/demeaning/ugly name-calling (no zaps, put downs, hostile analysis)
  • Support and encourage one another to be ourselves, to accept others' culture and to challenge our perceptions about difference
  • Encourage dialogue by doing the following: 1) Suspend judgment; 2) Listen; 3) Uncover assumptions; 4) Inquire and reflect
  • Appreciate our differences
