undergraduate, M.S.W., or Ph.D. programs. Drawing on our
strong faculty resources, outstanding community social work
and social welfare programs, excellent students, and the resources
of a world-renowned university, we have much to offer you.
In all of our programs we strive to teach and model respect
and concern for the people with whom social workers work.
We encourage you to develop an appreciation for the strengths
and diversity of the consumers of social work services and
to have the commitment and skills necessary to affect change
at the individual, family, community, and/or societal level.
Our undergraduate majors (Bachelor of Social Work and
B.A./B.S. in Social Welfare), provide broad exposure to the social and behavioral
sciences. As a Social Welfare major, knowledge of the social
welfare system will provide an excellent foundation for advanced
education and a solid grounding in the social and behavioral
sciences. The undergraduate Social Work major prepares you
for entry-level social work practice within a variety of areas.
The M.S.W. Program focuses on advanced social work skills and knowledge
you need to work effectively with a broad range of individual,
family, group, community, organizational and societal concerns. With faculty
assistance, you will have the opportunity to choose your field
placements from more than 100 agencies. Concentrations in
Child, Youth and Family Welfare; Health, Aging and Disability;
and Mental Health and Substance Abuse allow you to develop the expertise
needed to be an outstanding practitioner. Our graduates have
been very successful in finding social work employment throughout
the U.S. and score very high on state license examinations
postdegree.
The Ph.D. Program prepares scholars to take leadership positions
that advance social work practice, program evaluation, and
social welfare policy. Consistently ranked as one of the best
programs in the country, the hallmark of our program is the
interdisciplinary and individualized design of our doctoral
training. The curriculum encourages you to take full advantage
of courses in the Universitys world-renowned social
and behavioral science departments and the many interdisciplinary
centers and institutes on campus. Our recent graduates have
gone on to tenure track positions at major universities in
the US and abroad.
