Social Worker AODA Mental Health

To provide social work services, including: on-going case management, assessments, and drug coordination of MH/AODA services for children and adults in Bayfield County as well as ACCESS, Intake and on-call for Family Services.
Examples of Duties
A. Receives requests for county funded substance use disorder and/or mental health services: authorizes (or denies) services; develops contracts; and monitors funding. Completes Program Participation System (PPS) and billing paperwork as necessary.
B. Coordinates supports necessary to maintain consumers in a community setting including psychiatric and mental health services, symptom and medication monitoring, employment/education, housing, self-care, medical, financial, social and recreational.
C. Determines the range of services needed by individuals and families through interviews, home visits, collateral contacts, etc.
D. Facilitates the court process for mental health and alcohol/drug emergency detentions, attends court hearings, facilitates the preparation of court-related documents, and provides testimony as needed.
E. Prepares families for court hearings by explaining the process and involving them in the preparation of treatment recommendations.
F. Monitors compliance with court-ordered settlements and commitments by direct contact with consumers.
G. Assures continuity and appropriateness of services through communication and collaboration with individuals and organizations such as attorneys, court, corrections, law enforcement, schools, medical, tribal, and other community resources.
H. Assists families with the process of filing three-party petitions.
I. Serves as liaison to the Comprehensive Community Support (CCS) Program for adults and children with mental health and/or substance use disorders.
J. Provides intake, assessment, counseling case management, and crisis intervention services to court-ordered and voluntary cases related to mental health and alcohol/drug services.
K. Teams with other county staff (e.g. Juvenile Justice, Child Welfare, Child Protective Services, Veterans, Adult Protective Services, etc.) to address substance use disorder issues.
L. Coordinates services with other agencies/disciplines/community members such as law enforcement, attorneys, mental health and alcohol/drug treatment providers, schools, nursing homes, etc and educates all parties on the emergency detention process.
M. Arranges evaluation services to assist with assessment and case-planning decisions.
N. Locates appropriate treatment facilities that match an individual’s needs, identifies transportation resources and coordinates transportation when needed.
O. Identifies alternative funding sources and makes referrals as necessary (e.g. Health Insurance, Medical Assistance, etc.)
P. Completes case-related documents including case notes, correspondence, and general documentation.
Q. Provides primary back-up to the AODA Coordinator.
R. Works collaboratively with Criminal Justice Coordinator.
S. Provides evening and weekend on-call services for Juvenile Court Intake including assessment, crisis intervention, custody decisions and referrals on a rotation basis with other Family Services staff.
T. Performs Family Services Access duties on a rotation basis.
U. Participates in section and department meetings, work-related committees, and trainings.
V. Provides informational presentations to other staff, professionals, and community groups related to department programs and policies, substance use disorders, prevention, etc.
W. Participates in supervision/consultation.

A. Minimum of a four year degree from an accredited college in social work preferred, but will consider, sociology, psychology, criminal justice or other approved human services program.
B. Certified as a social worker in the state of Wisconsin or eligible for certification by holding a training certificate or temporary license and certified prior to the expiration of the certificate or temporary license.
C. Minimum of one year experience providing social work or MH/AODA case management to children and families.
D. Experience in computer use and keyboarding (40wpm) including Microsoft software including work processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, etc.
E. Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and reliable transportation.
