Description: American Parkinson Disease Association seeks an MSW or other credentialed healthcare professional with psychosocial support group experience, to lead a support group that meets weekly for 1.5-2 hours for people with Parkinson’s diagnosed within the last 5 years and their Care Partners. The 8-week support group will be held in Madison at an accessible facility and will meet (time of day; evenings, afternoons, mornings).
Responsibilities: Lead an 8-week support group for individuals with Parkinson’s disease and their Care Partners (PRESS). Pre-screen potential group participants. Identify/facilitate medical and health care speakers to present to the group when appropriate for a session. Responsible for organization of all 8 sessions, including local marketing of program, attendance and refreshments. Communicate with the APDA National and/or local liaison on the status of the group and any issues that may arise while the group is being conducted. Administer pre and post-test participant evaluations and submit in designated folders.
Qualifications: Master level credentials in social work, counseling, nursing, mental health or related field. Experience leading psychosocial support groups. Experience leading support groups for a chronic disease population a plus. Familiarity with neurological diseases. Excellent communication and public speaking skills. Understanding of group dynamics. Professional liability insurance required.
