Position Overview

Mental Health Specialists (Resident Counselors), play a key role in providing guidance, supervision and behavioral interventions for residents of our group homes serving adults with severe, persistent mental illness. In this role you will:

  • Provide support, assistance and supervision to residents including medication management and dispensing following safety and compliance protocols
  • Perform clinical and behavioral interventions as directed by management, demonstrating competent behavioral and clinical interventions
  • Monitor and report on symptoms, strengths and areas of challenge for individual residents and implement all features of the individual treatment plan with a focus on the principles of recovery and cultural sensitivity
  • Provide support and training to residents with regard to community integration activities including set up and transportation
  • Complete required documentation for resident care, facility operations, accreditation and licensure
  • Perform routine housekeeping and maintenance duties such as cleaning, shopping, meal planning and preparation and minor repairs
  • Maintain a safe & clean work environment by following established safety & operational excellence guidelines
  • Consistently perform all duties within the framework of our Mission and Core Values
  • Consistently interact with co-workers, residents, professionals, and family members in a professional & effective manner including both written and verbal communication

Qualifications

  • Completion of at least 60 college credits in human services (psychology, social work, social welfare) OR high school diploma plus two years’ experience in a directly related human services role
  • Working knowledge of mental illness, its treatment and the ability to identify and assess mental illness symptoms helpful. Training will be provided
  • Ability to work effectively with people diagnosed with a mental illness, their families, other service providers and the community at large
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to routinely handle climbing stairs and lift at least 25 pounds
  • Available to work both week days and weekends
