POSITION SUMMARYThis position is responsible for providing professional outpatient therapy including individual, family and group therapy. This position will provide mental health and crisis evaluations as necessary and formulate diagnoses; develop treatment objectives with the participants; and work effectively with other department staff and community providers to effectively deliver quality behavioral health services.
The Outpatient Therapist Position may require telework and may be a hybrid of in-office and telecommuting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Illustrative only)

  • Provides mental health therapy including individual, family and group treatment.
  • Conducts mental health evaluation assessing presenting problem including gathering information regarding symptoms, current and previous psychiatric medications, previous treatment or therapy, history, etc.
  • Formulates diagnosis; develops and directs treatment with client; completes psychiatric appointment referral when needed.
  • Determines appropriate method; directs treatment; discharges patient when progress is accomplished.
  • Evaluates clients for risk of harm to self or others, determining the need for hospitalization.
  • Creates assessment dictation, treatment plan and other various documentation regarding process and treatment.
  • Provides mental health screening, mediation, and crisis debriefing.

  • Performs job responsibilities consistently, timely, cost-effectively, ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Works in concert with the department staff to provide comprehensive mental health care for individuals.
  • Provides an environment that offers privacy, safety, and acceptance to promote and enhance the individual’s feeling of dignity and self-respect.
  • Diagnoses & provides methodologies of intervention.
  • Conducts suicide assessments & appropriate intervention.
  • Works to improve the quality of life for clients through encouragement, Motivational Interviewing, and other therapeutic tools to strengthen interpersonal and family relationships.
  • Creates recovery or treatment plans and document progress in compliance with State of Wisconsin Administrative Code: DHS 35 and 75.
  • Provides ongoing client care coordination, with individual and agency monitoring
  • Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Clinical Psychology
  • 3,000 hours post graduate work

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Certified as a mental health therapist (LCSW, LPC, MFT, or Clinical psychologist)
  • Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of criminal and caregiver background check
