Briarpatch Youth Services has an exciting job opportunity for a skilled professional. The agency is a dynamic non-profit community organization that has served Dane County since 1971. Briarpatch provides a broad array of services to more than 3,000 runaway, homeless, at-risk, and court-involved youth annually.

Job Title:  Housing Specialist

Description: Persons in this position serve young adults in the Briarpatch Street Outreach Program (SOP). This position is LTE ending April 30, 2022, and may be extended pending funding availability.


  • Requires either a Bachelor’s Degree in human services or a related field from an accredited college or university; or, the equivalent of two (2) years of fulltime experience working in a human services or youth development setting
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Applicants should possess an understanding of Trauma Informed Care,Positive Youth Development, and Harm Reduction.
  • Applicants should have experience with housing navigation andknowledge of Dane County housing resources.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides intake assessment, outreach, housing support, housing navigation, and case management services to young adults 18-24 (residing outside of the City of Madison in Dane County).
  • Establishes and maintains client files; documents client contacts and completes case related documentation in accordance with Street Outreach Program and agency standards.
  • Administers eviction prevention funds to qualifying clients.
  • Performs outreach and networking with property managers andlandlords.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of SOP and agency policies andprocedures.
  • Performs other reasonable and related duties as assigned.


This is a benefitted 40 hour per week LTE position. Typical work hours are between 9:00am and 8:00pm Monday through Friday. Occasional nights and weekends required.


A valid driver’s license in good standing with auto insurance is preferred.

Compensation Package:

Starting pay is $17.10 per hour.
