ParentChild+ Bilingual (Spanish) Early Learning Specialist

The Early Learning Specialist is supported by the Program Coordinator and works in collaboration with all ParentChild+ staff. The Early Learning Specialist is responsible for providing education and support services to parents and their children in the ParentChild+ home visiting program.

Position Responsibilities:
Direct Service
1. Visit with assigned families, in their homes, on a twice weekly basis, demonstrating reading, play, and verbal interaction behaviors with two to four-year-old children and their parents or primary caregivers.
2. Exhibit warmth and patience when interacting with toddlers and families.
3. Maintain a non-judgmental attitude towards program families and other staff.
4. Is flexible in the home setting, can respond to a variety of circumstances as they occur, and shows good judgment in seeking support and guidance when needed.
5. Enjoy working independently and has a strong sense of responsibility regarding carrying out the required job duties on one’s own.

1. Complete a minimum of 16-hours of training delivered by the Program Coordinator prior to beginning home visits.
2. Complete required paperwork on a weekly basis, including preparing written anecdotal reports on each visit and conducting regular child development and parent-child interaction assessments.
3. Attend and participate in individual meetings with the Program Coordinator, 2-hour weekly staff meetings, and group reflective supervision.
4. Demonstrate an interest in learning about the ParentChild+ program model and in being a lifelong learner.
5. Keep all family information confidential except as required by law.

Program Operations
1. Participate in community outreach opportunities to engage with and recruit future program participants.
2. Create and update guide sheets for the books and toys utilized in the program curriculum.
3. Provide regular feedback on the program curriculum and additional learning activities shared with program participants.

1. Engage in ongoing examination of and engagement with one’s own biases and continued work toward cultural humility.
2. Work well with others, embracing different perspectives and life experiences beyond one’s own experience and perspective.
3. Attend and actively participate in agency meetings.
4. Participate in trainings sponsored by the agency.
5. Follow RISE’s confidentiality guidelines to ensure program participant privacy.
6. Follow RISE’s policies and procedures as cited in the Employee Handbook.
7. Hold a valid driver’s license, have access to reliable transportation, and have a driving record that enables purchase of automobile insurance in accordance with agency guidelines.
8. Perform other duties as requested by the Program Coordinator, Program Supervisor, Director of Early Childhood Programs, or the Executive Director that enhance the overall agency operation.

Required Qualifications:
• Bilingual in Spanish (in addition to English) as determined by an ALTA verbal language test and within RISE’s acceptable range
• High school diploma or GED
• Is knowledgeable about early childhood development
• Existing knowledge of Dane County communities or willingness to learn
• Possession of strong time management skills and the ability to balance multiple tasks
• Demonstrated ability to make sound judgments, work independently and as a member of a team
• Ability to drive self and others via vehicle
• Daily access to a reliable vehicle, with valid drivers’ license and insurance
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient computer skills, specifically in current versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point, and willingness to learn new skills as needed or required
• Ability to pay attention to detail and a commitment to quality work

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bilingual in French, Hmong, Arabic, or other language as deemed necessary by program (in addition to English) as determined by an ALTA verbal language test and within RISE’s acceptable range
• Experience working with young children and/or parents in their homes or community-based settings (paid or volunteer)
• Past participation in ParentChild+ or another home visiting program
• Ability to connect with ParentChild+ program families through shared lived experiences, language, culture, and/or community membership
