The Organization

Gilda’s Club Madison opened its doors in the summer of 2008. We create a community of free emotional support, cancer education, and hope for children and adults with any cancer diagnosis and those who care about them. Gilda’s Club is an affiliate of the Cancer Support Community.


Reporting to the Program Director, the Program Manager will facilitate support groups, coordinate program events, interact with staff, volunteers and members, and oversee various evening and weekend programs. The Program Manager, in coordination with the Program Director, is responsible for developing and implementing programs at Gilda’s Club Madison. This individual will assume leadership in our Children, Teen, and Family programming. This position works closely with the Program Director, Executive Director and others to provide programmatic consultation as it relates to people impacted by cancer. The Program Manager is expected to maintain licensure in the state of Wisconsin as a mental health professional, to keep up to date on psychosocial oncology practice and research issues. The Program Manager must embody the highest professional standards and demonstrate warmth and compassion as he/she works with members, staff, volunteers, and others in building and maintaining a sense of community.


Minimum Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling Marriage & Family Therapy, Psychology or Child Life Certificate.

Required Qualifications: Minimum three years’ work experience in the mental health field; group leading and individual interventions
Licensed mental health professional through the State of Wisconsin
Possession of a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications: Technologically proficiency – shared documents, databases, Zoom, Microsoft platforms
Mental health experience in a health-related field preferred.
Oral and written fluency in English and Spanish


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop, and/or facilitate groups as assigned, according to the Gilda’s Club philosophy, and Cancer Support Community standards – in particular this role will oversee our Children, Teens, and Family programs (support, education, and socials)
  • Conduct/facilitate groups, individual interventions, workshops in person and virtually
  • Support all facets of education and social activities – setup, participant comfort, and evaluation.
  • Collaborates with Program Director to train, supervise and schedule volunteers working the Program
  • Organize thought, ideas and materials, and communicate clearly with the team
  • Problem-solve and find productive solutions to challenges
  • Create in-roads with marginalized communities and attend to issues of power, privilege and inequity
  • Promote a strong sense of belonging with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Organized and able to effectively juggle multiple priorities each day
  • Demonstrated ability to work with adults, teens and children
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of program
  • Motivated self-starter with integrity who is committed to service and excellence
  • Possess a positive attitude with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact and build strong working relationships with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work on multiple platforms and with multiple devices (phone, tablet, computer) and perform typing for 50-70% on a typical work day
  • Ability to hear and speak to communicate in person, over the phone and online
  • Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds
