IDD Community Stabilization Outreach Coordinator

The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of 15 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, several scientific research cores, and a clinical biomanufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials. In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future.

This position is a staff member within the Community Outreach Wisconsin (COW), University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) work unit located at 122 E. Olin Avenue. This position will develop, coordinate and implement–in close collaboration with Dane County Human Services, Journey Mental Health Center–the provision of DHS Chap 34 Crisis Stabilization services to Dane County residents with intellectual disabilities who are at high risk of experiencing a mental health crisis. Working closely with Community TIES Behavior Outreach consultants, this position will coordinate the provision of culturally sensitive, recovery oriented, and trauma sensitive, direct clinical crisis stabilization services to eligible Dane County residents.

This position is not a first responder. The position provides short-term pro-active crisis prevention planning and post-crisis follow-up service coordination. This position will also research and create program policies and procedures and provide ongoing training to Waisman Center Community Outreach staff and affiliated programs in Dane county to integrate the utilization of Crisis Stabilization services in a manner that compliments long-term care services typically provided under the Family Care and IRIS programs to Dane County residents with IDD.
