NewBridge Madison Mental Health Resource Team:Graduate-Level Internship Position

Position Title: Mental Health Graduate Intern (Social Work, Professional Counseling, Marriage
and Family Therapist)

Internship Type: Part-time (Minimum 12 hours per week)

Location: Hybrid (Remote & In-Person) – Requires consistent transportation and reliable
internet access

Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate graduate-level intern in the mental health field
(Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy) to gain professional experience in
community-based mental health services. This internship focuses on providing support to the
NewBridge Madison, Mental Health Resource Team (MHRT), which serves low-income
elderly adults (60+) struggling with grief, social isolation, depression, anxiety, and other
cognitive and mental health challenges.

Interns will assist with community-based group sessions that promote social engagement
and emotional well-being. Additionally, they will provide follow-up phone contact with MHRT
clients, assist case managers with consultations, conduct intake assessments, provide mental
health service referrals, and participate in safety planning as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
● Facilitate and co-facilitate community-based mental health support groups for
elderly adults focusing on grief, isolation, depression, anxiety, and social engagement
● Conduct follow-up phone contact with MHRT clients to check on their well-being and
provide additional support resources
● Assist with intake assessments, needs evaluations, and crisis intervention planning
● Provide mental health service referrals, connecting clients with appropriate providers
and community resources
● Support safety planning for clients experiencing acute distress, collaborating with
supervisors to implement appropriate interventions
● Document client interactions in accordance with ethical and legal guidelines,
maintaining confidentiality and accuracy
● Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case consultations to develop
holistic care strategies for clients
● Engage in professional development and training related to geriatric mental health,
trauma-informed care, and culturally competent service delivery

Qualifications & Requirements:
● Currently enrolled in a graduate program (MSW, MA, or MFT program) in Social
Work, Counseling, or related mental health field
● Must be eligible for internship/practicum credit through the university program
● Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
● Experience or interest in working with older adults and underserved populations
● Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting
● Consistent access to transportation for in-person requirements
● Reliable internet connection for virtual sessions and meetings
● Adherence to confidentiality, ethical standards, and professional guidelines

Supervision & Training:
● Weekly supervision with a licensed clinician
● Case consultation and skill-building workshops
● Exposure to various therapeutic modalities and community resources
Commitment & Schedule:
● Minimum 12 hours per week (flexible scheduling options available)
● Internship duration based on academic requirements (typically 6-12 months)
● Hybrid format with a mix of in-person and virtual responsibilities
