MSW Application Status

After you have submitted your online application, the Graduate School will send you an email on accessing MyUW, where you can check the status of your application through your Student Center. Under the Program Checklist section, you can watch for missing items and notifications from the Social Work admissions staff.


When the admissions staff has verified your application is complete and you meet our prerequisites, a green check mark will appear next to "Application Materials Complete" under the Program Checklist. It is your responsibility to see that your application is complete by the admission deadline.


Note that although your Student Center indicates fourteen days for the Social Work admissions staff to check off receipt of your materials, it can take up to four weeks depending on the volume of applications.

Application Issues

If there are any issues with your application after you submit it, such as missing materials or materials that were submitted incorrectly, we will note it in your Student Center as explained above. Continue watching your application status until you see a green check mark next to “Application Materials Complete” under the Program Checklist. The checklist will automatically update at 7:00am CST each work day EXCEPT the transcript(s) checkbox.


Transcripts require manual processing by School of Social Work admissions staff in order to verify authenticity, your last 60 GPA, and to check for 30 semester credits of social science courses. If you recently submitted your application and do not see your transcripts checked off, it may mean our staff has not processed them yet. Please do not e-mail our office to confirm your transcripts have been received. When we process your individual application materials, we will notify you if there is anything missing.


Due to the increase in volume of submitted applications near the deadline, it could take up to four weeks for our admissions staff to check off receipt of your materials and identify any application issues. We highly recommend you submit your application early so that any issues can be identified and addressed prior to the deadline. After the deadline has passed, applications with identified issues will be considered incomplete and not be reviewed.


Admission Decisions

Applicants to the Full-Time MSW Program will be notified throughout early March.


Applicants to the Part-Time MSW Program will be notified approximately 8 weeks after submitting their complete application.


School of Social Work Notification

You will receive an email with a letter attached from the School of Social Work informing you of the MSW Admissions Committee's decision regarding your application. If the Committee recommends that you be accepted, the letter will also include notification that we have submitted your name to the Graduate School for final approval for admission.


The Graduate School Notification

When the Graduate School approves the School's recommendation of acceptance, they will notify you via your Student Center, as well as mail an acceptance letter. The letter contains your Campus/Student ID number, which you originally received in an email from the Graduate School upon completing your application. This ID number is required for future correspondence with the School and University.


It is critical that you carefully read and follow all instructions from these correspondences. Please retain these communications for future reference.
