Social Work Student Union Joins March
October 2, 2021 @ 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm
Fellow Social Work Students,
In response to the recent banning of abortion by the Texas State Legislature, several national supporters of abortion rights (including Planned Parenthood and the Women’s March), have organized a march and rally on Saturday, October 2nd. Folks will be assembling at UW Library Mall at 1 pm to make signs and then marching up State Street to the Capital for a 2 pm demonstration (with speakers).
We need to turn out in numbers to signal to the Supreme Court that that should not overturn Roe Vs Wade on December 1st!
For reference, Wisconsin has a 172-year-old law in place outlawing abortion at any point in pregnancy — without any exceptions. This law could go into effect if Roe is overturned when the Supreme Court takes action on a different abortion ban scheduled to be discussed December 1.
Please join us on the patio outside the social work building (otherwise known as the top floor of the parking garage) at 12:30 pm on Saturday October 2nd to head together to Library Mall. If you cannot join at the school of social work, but would like to otherwise meet up with the group at UW Library Mall, feel free to text Sheri Meland at 608-438-3150 or Bailey Wendelberger at 480-754-9140.
Hope to see many of you on Saturday,
