Interests/bio: My name is Abby and I am a fourth-year student in the Part-Time MSW program. I have professional experience working in an adolescent group home, conducting in-home individual skills development with children who have high behavioral needs, supervised visitations, case management, and in-home parent education & support. I like to say “when I grow up” I hope to be a psychotherapist, and plan on pursuing my clinical licensure upon graduating from UW-Madison. I am extremely passionate (and geeky) about all things mental health: how it impacts individuals and those around them, how a person’s environment affects their well-being, and what can be done to enhance quality of life for those who live with mental illness.
Outside of school and work, I am an adoring cat mom, and I live to spoil my sweet fur-baby, Bean (short for Beanjamin). I love playing, singing, and listening to music, and expressing myself through photography, painting, and jewelry-making. In my free time, I enjoy playing video games, caring for my plants, and watching/listening to my favorite podcasts, YouTube channels, and TV shows.
I am grateful for the field of social work because it allows me to work towards my goal of using my privilege to be of service to those who need support. I aim to empower my fellow humans of Earth to do their best by reminding them there is no such thing as perfection, and there is always room for progress. I firmly believe in the goodness of all humans – we are all deserving of love and respect. I am honored to be able to share my knowledge and passions with others, and I am always excited to see what I will learn from others in return!
