Summer Bridge Term

Current Students and Community Social Workers Looking for Summer Classes?

Need Psychopathology Course for Advanced Standing or State Licensure?

Don't Have a "B" or better in Research Methods or in SW with Ethnic and Racial Groups

for Advanced Standing?

Need to Fulfill the MSW Statistics Prerequisite?

The Summer Bridge Term is Designed for you!

Park Street Pedestrian Bridge

The Summer Bridge Term is the place to find summer course offerings and is also designed to help incoming students in the Full-Time and Part-Time MSW Programs meet the MSW program statistics prequisite and to complete foundation course exemptions for advanced standing.

Students are stongly advised to complete the Summer Bridge Term to avoid the burden of trying to complete additional courses on top of their regular course load during the academic year.

Students who don't have the required grade to qualify for an exemption ("B" or better in SW foundation courses; "C" or better in statistics) or who don't have a comparable foundation social work course are required to take the non-exempted course(s) in addition to the regular advanced year course load. Depending on course availability, this can mean that students find their graduation is delayed. Taking a course in the Summer Bridge Term can significantly help to avoid graduation delays.

+ For New Part-Time MSW Program Students-Advanced Standing (Year 3)

You must take Psychopathology in Generalist Practice along with Stats and/or research methods in the Summer Bridge Term before starting advanced year courses in Fall. There is no room in the advanced year curriculum for you to take them. Failure to do so will likely mean having to stay an extra summer or semester to complete these requirements. IMPORTANT: Please be sure that you've been accepted into the Part-Time MSW Program for the summer term rather than fall term. You should contact Academic Advisors Cindy McMillan or Diane Brandt with any questions.
