Visit Public Child Welfare Training Program Overview for more information about the program.
Application deadlines can be found on our Admissions and Funding Deadlines page.
You MUST first apply to the School of Social Work (BSW or MSW application), or be a current BSW or MSW student.
You are eligible to apply if:
- You are currently (for 2019-2020) a Generalist Year MSW student (1st year Full-Time Program, 1st or 2nd year Part-Time Program); or,
- You have been accepted into either the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or the Master of Social Work (MSW) Programs (as a Generalist or Advanced Standing student) for 2020-2021.
Application visibility for prospective MSW and BSW students:
- BSW: You must be accepted to the BSW Program before the IV-E application will be visible.
- Full-Time MSW: You must be accepted to the MSW Program before the IV-E application will be visible.
- Part-Time MSW: See “Part-Time MSW Program IV-E Admissions” (below)
PART-TIME MSW PROGRAM IV-E ADMISSIONS
Part-Time MSW Program applicants will only be considered if they are accepted into the MSW Program, but due to differing deadlines, we will allow IV-E applications from individuals who have applied but not yet been accepted to the MSW Program. Individuals applying to the Part-Time MSW Program must have their application to the Graduate School/School of Social Work completed by April 10th, so that they can be given access to the IV-E application in time to complete it on the 15th. It is not possible to apply for the Public Child Welfare Training Program without a completed application, including letters of reference, to the Graduate School/School of Social Work. Part-Time MSW Program applicants who apply to the Graduate School/School of Social Work after April 10th will not be guaranteed consideration for the IV-E Program.
Contact email@example.com for questions or clarification of these eligibility terms.
The Title IV-E Public Child Welfare Training Program application is located in the Social Work Information Management System (SWIMS) website. Follow the Application Link to the SWIMS website, login using the LOGIN button in the top right corner (if it says “LOGOUT”, you’re logged in already!) click on the Title IV-E Application menu in the left sidebar, and complete all parts of the application. Remember to submit your application once all sections are complete.
If you are having trouble finding or completing the application, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org!
If you are interested in finding out more about public child welfare work, we strongly recommend you watch the Realistic Job Preview (RJP).
Applications will be reviewed in the weeks following the deadline, and finalists will be contacted for a face-to-face interview before decisions are made.
LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION
For new applications, a Letter of Recommendation is not required. If you have a letter of recommendation related to prior child welfare experience that you feel will reflect well on you, you can attach it to your application. Not having a letter will NOT have a negative impact on your application.
Regardless of whether you have a letter or not, you need to submit the Letter of Recommendation section by pressing the “Upload” button. We realize this is not terribly clear, and apologize for any confusion.
If you run into any error messages, please contact email@example.com.

Note: Funding for all Public Child Welfare Training Program trainees is contingent upon continuation of federal and state funding. All students should have alternate funding plans.
