Kyle Bollman, MSW ’17 and Michelle Olson, MSW ’95 are school social workers at La Follette High School in Madison, a school where 60% of the students are considered “economically disadvantaged,” according to the state Department of Public Instruction.
This year more than 160 students were able to choose gifts for themselves and their family members. “Those that sign up for the program answer a question of both what they and their siblings want but also what they need. Things like socks, underwear, diapers, and money for gas are often among the responses,” Kyle explained.
