Social Service Occupations Will Grow Significantly

The U.S. Bureau for Labor Statistics report in February 2024 predicted that, “Overall employment in community and social service occupations is projected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations from 2025 to 2035…This projected employment growth for the community and social service occupational group (7.8 percent) is nearly three times faster than the all-occupation average (2.8 percent) and ranks 4th of out of all 22 occupational groups.”

While job growth was predicted to be strong in all major social work professional areas, the need for social workers working with the growing aging population, healthcare, substance abuse and mental health were singled out for large increases.
