Dr. LB Klein was recently elected to a two-year term as treasurer on the executive board of the Caucus of LGBTQ Faculty & Students in Social Work. The caucus is a “is a support, networking, and advocacy group,” open to faculty and students in social work who are LGBTQ or interested in LGBTQ issues. The caucus meets at the annual gatherings of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and the Society of Social Work and Research (SSWR), publishes the journal Gay & Lesbian Social Services (name change pending), assists members on the job market, and develops programs for faculty to share their experiences around being LGBTQ, among its other work.

Recently, the caucus’ executive board released a statement in support of trans and nonbinary students and colleagues in the wake of proposed anti-trans orders in Texas and proposed anti-trans bills throughout the country. The statement includes actions social workers can take to support trans youth.

Dr. Klein is an Anna Julia Cooper Post-doctoral Fellow and incoming Assistant Professor. Her most recent research focuses on preventing and responding to sexual and intimate partner violence experienced by LGBTQ+ college and university students.
