Congratulations to PhD student Evelyn Coker who was recognized with the Initiative for Cross-Institutional Student Collaboration award by the Group for the Advancement of Doctoral Education (GADE) in Social Work. The project, Count on Me: An Exploration of the Factors that Shape Perceptions of Social Support Among Black Women in Social Work Research Doctoral Programs, will study “perceptions of social support among Black women students in resident social work doctorate programs and engage students and faculty in discussions of this issue through the presentation of study results.” Colleagues on the study are Kenyette Garrett (University of Tennessee-Knoxville) and Chesney Ward (University of Tennessee-Knoxville).
The Group for the Advancement of Doctoral Education (GADE) includes more than 100 social work doctoral program directors from across the country promoting “excellence and equity in social work doctoral education.” The Initiative for Cross-Institutional Student Collaboration was designed to encourage collaboration among doctoral students across universities. Evelyn and colleagues will be recognized at the GADE reception at the annual conference of the Society of Social Work and Research.
