Today we are profiling one of our alumni, Elizabeth Wahl, MSW ‘05.
Elizabeth Wahl, MSSW LSW IMH-E® is the Pregnancy Promise Program Manager at Indiana Family and Social Services Administration. Since Elizabeth founded the Indiana Pregnancy Promise Program in 2021, nearly 1,000 women have enrolled. The program aids expectant and new mothers with opioid use disorder in accessing vital services, including prenatal and postpartum care. Opioid use disorder is the leading cause of maternal mortality in Indiana, often leading to babies being separated from their mothers. However, most participants have successfully brought their babies home, with all surviving their first year postpartum. The chief medical officer of Indiana commended Elizabeth for her commitment, the supportive relationships she builds, and her work in creating partnerships with hospitals and service providers to enhance the health of mothers and their babies.
Elizabeth’s piece of advice to current social work students is:
“Find opportunities and experiences in both policy and practice. Working in the field with individuals and families and taking those front-line experiences to other roles involving policies, systems, rules and regulations has allowed me to make a deeper impact in my career.”
