Today we are profiling one of our alumni, Marissa Abbott, PhD ‘21.
Marissa Abbott is a Social Science Analyst at the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) for the US Department of Health and Human Services. She supports the child welfare and family well-being portfolios. Her dissertation for her PhD was “The Interplay Between Adverse and Positive Childhood Experiences: An Exploration of Risk and Resilience in Health and Parenting.”
Marissa’s piece of advice to current social work students is:
“Find opportunities and experiences in both policy and practice. Working in the field with individuals and families and taking those front-line experiences to other roles involving policies, systems, rules and regulations has allowed me to make a deeper impact in my career.”
