The Part-Time MSW Program allows students who are not able to pursue full-time study to work towards a master’s degree on a structured, time-extended basis with classes delivered in a hybrid manner. Some courses are designed as blended courses with a mix of online learning and in-person sessions, while others are taught as online courses. In-person sessions take place every other Saturday on our Madison campus.

Why did you choose the Part-Time Program?
I chose to apply for the Part-Time Program as it was unlike any other program offered, in that I would be able to further my education while maintaining employment. The flexibility of the part-time format has enabled me to apply classwork directly into my work with children, youth and families, enhancing my assessment, intervention, and advocacy skills as well. I am also grateful for the opportunities the part-time program offers to collaborate with others engaged in work with children, youth, and families to enhance practice amongst different agencies and communities.
How would you describe your experience in the Part-Time MSW Program?
I have had a very positive experience thus far in the Part-Time MSW Program. I have felt welcomed into the program and have found the coursework incredibly helpful in building my skills to best serve children, youth, and families.
What has been your favorite course so far in the program and why?
My favorite course thus far has been my first in-person course, SOCWORK 741: Interventions with Children, Youth, and Families with Teri Thomas. Teri was incredibly engaging not only in-person, but also online for asynchronous courses (which we all know can be difficult to do via screen)! Additionally, I learned a ton of helpful information about how to select, evaluate, and implement appropriate interventions to support children, youth, and families.
How do you think the Part-Time MSW Program has prepared you for entering the field of social work?
The Part-Time MSW Program has prepared me to advance in the field of social work by allowing me to apply new knowledge learned into professional settings, fostering my skills and abilities as a social worker.
What would you say to someone who is considering the program?
I highly encourage anyone considering applying for the Part-Time MSW Program. The benefits provided by the program are like none other and the skills you will learn will help you foster positive impacts in your work with families.
What UW support services have you used during your time in the program?
I have found the Writing Center to be incredibly helpful when writing an essay as they can provide guidance on citation styles as well as proper academic formatting. I am excited to continue exploring them as I continue participating in the program.
