“Social Workers Deserve To Live a Life Where They Are Financially And Professionally Fulfilled,” Taylor (Gilbert) Wilson, MSW ‘18

Taylor Wilson and Faith Voss

Financing their education, social work alum Taylor Wilson and her husband, a medical student, had incurred substantial student loan debt. A novice to the financial management and planning world, Taylor’s initial goal was to begin making progress at reducing that debt. Reading extensively, taking coursework and listening to experts, Taylor explained, “I wished there was a platform to learn how to increase your income, pay off debt, and build wealth without sacrificing your passion.”

Unable to find a helpful platform, especially something tailored to social workers and other human service professionals, Taylor created Social Work to Wealth. Her site offers a wide range of information on topics like debt reduction, career resources, side hustles, and managing your money. In addition, Taylor and former classmate Faith Voss, MSW’18, host a regular podcast about topics related to the social work profession and social workers’ finances which you can find on their site.

Taylor explained that while social workers often work with clients with financial stresses, “social work programs taught you how to care for clients but didn’t cover financial wellness or how to leverage your degree for career growth. We’re here to bridge the gap.”
