Assistant Professor LB Klein was recently named a finalist for The Linda Saltzman New Investigator Award, which honors an “outstanding new investigator working in the field of the prevention of intimate partner violence, domestic violence, sexual violence, or dating violence” by the CDC Foundation.
Dr. Klein is an intervention researcher and prevention scientist whose interdisciplinary work focuses on interpersonal violence and LGBTIQ+ well-being. Dr. Klein’s “breadth of work, experience, and commitment to building this field,” was impressive to the selection committee. “We also want to let you know that your leadership is so important to continuing to build this field and we hope you will continue in your dedication to the understanding of intimate partner violence prevalence, prevention and intervention, which struggles for recognition and funding,” they continued.
Dr. Klein, a mentor and advisor to many students, serves as the co-chair for the Gender-Based Violence Cluster with the Society for Social Work and Research. Their research team is also adapting an evidence-based bystander intervention program, Bringing in the Bystander® specifically for LGBTQ+ college and university students.
As the selection committee said, “Many, many thanks for all that you do.”
