A number of faculty and recent graduates received recognition from the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR) at their annual conference, “Social Work Science for Social Change,” this week.
Dr. Kristi Slack, professor, interim director, and PhD program chair was inducted as an American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare (AASWSW) Fellow for “distinguished accomplishments as a scholar and practice and policy leader dedicated to achieving excellence in high-impact work to advance social good.” Professor Slack joins Sandra Rosenbaum School of Social Work Professors Lonnie Berger, Katherine Magnuson, Dan Meyer, and Stephanie Robert as Academy Fellows.
Alumna Dr. Emma Carpenter, PhD ‘20 received an honorable mention for the 2021 SSWR Outstanding Social Work Doctoral Dissertation Award for the dissertation entitled, “Queering Pregnancy: Understanding the Role of Queer Identity in Pregnancy Desires and Decisions.” Dr. Carpenter is now a postdoctoral researcher at UT-Austin.
Dr. Alejandra Ros Pilarz, assistant professor; Dr. Katherine Magnuson, professor and director of the Institute for Research on Poverty, and PhD alum Dr. Ying-Chun Lin received honorable mention of the 2021 SSWR Excellence in Research Award for the article entitled, “Do Parental Work Hours and Nonstandard Schedules Explain Income-Based Gaps in Center-Based Early Care and Education Participation?”
